I was browsing through the photos on my phone recently. There are plenty of of photos and videos of my family but these are far outnumbered by photos taken while I was out cycling. I love cycling the quiet country roads of Ireland. There is so much to see when you slow down a little and look over the hedges. The countryside is dotted with evidence of our past from rare Mesolithic sites to numerous ruined churches and old graveyards.
Cathair Fionnúrach, Dingle Peninsula, Co Kerry Killyleagh Castle, Co Down Mullaghmast Standing Stone, Co Kildare
I have decided to keep an online diary of my cycles for the coming year and record the sites of interest that I visit. Most of these will be in my own county but I’m sure the diary will encourage me to go further afield to explore more of Ireland. I will also upload some routes taking in some of the wonderful places I see on my travels.
Srahwee Wedge Tomb, Louisburgh, Co Mayo Fore Abbey, Co Westmeath Meehambee Portal Tomb, Mihanboy, Co Roscommon
I hope this diary will be of interest to others and encourage the exploration on two wheels of our wonderful heritage.
